KP-INDEX provides a good indicator of viewing the Aurora Borealis or Northern Lights. The higher the KP-Index the greater the probability of viewing. The estimated 3-hour Planetary KP-Index data is collected from ground-based magnetometers.
A-INDEX is an indicator of possible enhanced VHF radio communication at a range of 1600 kilometers or more. Strong solar activity may allow long-distance radio communications at 28-433 MHz in mid to high latitudes.
